ENERGY STAR and PEI...
Compliance with ENERGY STAR guidelines must be verified by an independent third party agency.  PEI provides the following services to verify ENERGY STAR performance levels:
  • Document ENERGY STAR performance levels of new, existing, or proposed homes.
  • Provide assistance to builders with the ENERGY STAR qualification process.
  • Document compliance with the 2005 Energy Policy Act tax credit initiative.
  • Estimate potential energy savings of various home designs.
  • Compare the energy efficiency of similar homes (both proposed and existing).
  • Provide guidance regarding the best investment of you energy improvement dollar.
  • Provide documentation for Energy Efficient Mortgages (EEM).

Homes that earn the ENERGY STAR receive a certificate and a label that is permanently attached to the structure. Savings on utility expenses are typically in the range of $200 - $400 per year to a typical home.

ENERGY STAR and Builders...

Builders of site-built, single family homes, duplexes, and multi-family housing including apartments and condominiums can all become ENERGY STAR partners, so can manufacturers of modular and HUD-code factory built homes.  PEI can guide you through this process.  You have the option to commit to the building 100% ENERGY STAR homes, but all that is required to maintain status as an ENERGY STAR partner is to build at least one ENERGY STAR home per year.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005 provides for a tax credit for builders who construct and sell homes that meet certain energy conservation guidelines.  PEI can provide documentation verifying compliance with these requirements.

ENERGY STAR and YOU...

Regardless of your local jurisdiction’s requirements, PEI can verify compliance with the applicable Energy Conservation Code and provide supporting documentation.

Once we have entered all of a home’s vital statistics into our computer program we can easily run any number of alternative scenarios.  This allows us to estimate and compare the energy-saving potential of different options at the design stage.
If you can’t decide which of 2 or more homes to buy or build, we can help!  PEI can measure, inspect, and test the homes for energy efficiency.  We can then provide you with the comparison information to help you determine with of the homes will produce the lowest utility bills.
Thinking about home improvements but unsure of what projects will provide the best return on your investment?  We can help there also!  Our software can pinpoint which components of a structure result in the largest heat losses.  We can also estimate the potential energy savings the improvements would provide.

ENERGY STAR and LENDERS/ FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS...

Did you know that many banks and lending institutions offer home loans and home improvement loans that are backed by various agencies of the federal government?  If the home is more efficient than is required by the Energy Code, the agency often allows the savings in utility expenses to be applied towards the mortgage payment.  The result is that a lower annual income is required to qualify for a loan.  This is referred to as an Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM).  Some eventual saving after the improvement is allowed to count as income for loan qualification purposes.  Ask you banker about an EEM.  PEI can provide the inspections and documentation necessary to verify the energy savings.
